NLP capabilities in English are the most mature; however, the NLP capabilities in several Western European languages is steadily improving, and for the larger languages (German, French, Italian, Spanish) is comparable to the performance of English models in many tasks. State of the art in some of the most spoken languages of the world (Mandarin, Hindi, Arabic, Russian, and Japanese) is also quite good, and models for these languages will typically be available in most platforms. Support for other languages in many NLP platforms is hit and miss.

For process automation, it makes sense to optimize the process first. This should also include any considerations for execution by robots. Obvious examples are 24x7 operation, to using APIs rather than front end interfaces. However it may still be expedient or sensible to follow the original process executed by humans. For example rather than driving customers to use a website (a more traditional form of process optimization, it may be a strategic to support email as channel for receiving orders and therefore automate the process by using RPA and Cognitive robots.

Yes, most Facebook Messenger apps are based on this model: Out of 102 that Forrester analyzed, 84 used purely human labor while 12 used some AI and some human labor. This is because the AIs simply don't perform well enough yet. But it does introduce privacy concerns and should be made transparent to users.

Yes, it is similar to crowd sourcing. Creating data sets for AI training is mostly done by humans now, however RPA also helps to automate some part of it by automating unnecessary manual operations.

Obviously, the primary purpose of any commercial company is to make profit for its shareholders. Business strategy is the path to this goal, so it is always primary. Automation is not a goal by itself, but it helps to achieve better business results, so it could be a part of business strategy. Many customers create a self-funding automation program whereby the savings from early process automations pay for the subsequent process automations.

Robots do not contain persistent data. They process data from various sources and post the results to applications like a corporation’s ERP, CRM or SCM system. As such it is only necessary to fail over to a disaster recovery site in the worst case scenario of the production environment being lost. Robots are essentially business logic that sits across applications and therefore resilience can be achieved in much the same way as in other business critical applications.

  1. We can’t handle hand written documents yet, I’m afraid. Our roadmap is ambitious, but this functionality is not yet on the roadmap.
  2. We can handle many languages in the world, including western European languages, Cyrillic script, Greek script, (from machine written pdfs and scanned documents) and many Asian languages (with the caveat that Asian scripts need to come from machine written pdfs (i.e. not scanned documents) as the characters are more intricate.
